Abstract

Heavy rainfall is closely associated with atmospheric rivers (ARs), which are long, narrow bands and ephemeral corridors with significant water vapor flux. so this paper study the relation between ARs and low pressure system (L). because there is no specialized study for this relation, for this reason extreme rainfall case was taken for period 2023/4/11 to 20203/4/13 which cover most of Iraq area and surrounding regions and the amount of rain fall over Iraq in this case from 10-100 mm/day according to data recorded from Iraq meteorological organization and seismology ARs mechanisms and roles in the Middle East's flooding are not well known. By using vertically integrated moisture flux transit (IVT) evaluated the relationships between ARs and L. from result which obtained from analysis surface pressure systems maps and using (IVT) to determining ARs led to in this case type of AR was week over Arbian peninsula up towards Iraq and their was a low pressure area over Arbian peninsula which development in to L and give intensity to AR by adding moisture in addition to enhanced moisture from north Africa and red sea for ARs. Where in the begging of case the rain was week when the AR become strong the rain become extreme. when ARs accompanied with L will increasing the moisture and this led to intensify the ARs and gives deepening for L most of ARs accompanied with L but it not necessary presence of L meaning the existence of ARs.
